SCOTIA, NY (WRGB) — The Scotia Police Department is investigating an isolated report of a foreign object, described as a small sewing needle, found in a piece of Halloween candy collected during trick-or-treating.
The report was made on social media after a parent reportedly discovered the object while inspecting their child’s candy. No injuries have been reported, and at this time there is no evidence to suggest any wider threat or pattern in the community.
Out of an abundance of caution, the department is examining the candy and following up on all available information to determine how this may have occurred.
The Scotia Police Department encourages parents to continue checking all Halloween treats before consumption and to report any suspicious findings to law enforcement.
Anyone with information related to this report is asked to contact the Scotia Police Department at 518-630-0911. Updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
