The laborious process of finalizing a Mountain West men’s basketball schedule continued Wednesday with the release of television assignments and the adjustment of several dates from the tentative list of games released last month.
Now we just need the rest of the tip times.
San Diego State learned two things with Wednesday’s release:
- All 20 of its conference games are on some sort of linear TV, including three on big-boy CBS: Jan. 24 at UNLV, Jan. 31 at Utah State and Feb. 28 at New Mexico. All three have tip times between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. PST.
- Five games were moved by a day from the initial schedule. Four moved from Tuesday to Wednesday — Jan 14 at Wyoming, Jan 21 at Grand Canyon, Jan. 28 vs. Colorado State, Feb. 25 vs. Utah State — and one, a March 6 game vs. UNLV, from Saturday to Friday.
It means 14 of SDSU’s 20 games will be played either on Wednesdays or Saturdays. Only one home date is a Tuesday night during school, Feb. 3 against Wyoming, when there is a heavier schedule of evening classes at SDSU and traffic is typically worse.
SDSU will appear on all three CBS telecasts but not on the one big-boy Fox telecast this season. That is Grand Canyon at UNLV on Feb. 7.
In past years, the major network telecasts were usually toward the very beginning of the conference schedule, presumably to get the Mountain West out of the way early so they could show power conferences later in the schedule as interest in college basketball swells. In 2025-26, however, SDSU’s three network games are all between Jan. 24 and Feb. 28, perhaps a nod toward the expected national relevance of the Aztecs.
Also, notably, all three CBS games are on the road, two at altitude. All three have early tip times, ranging from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. PST.
In all, eight of the 20 tip times were revealed. The 12 that weren’t are all on CBS Sports Network.
Start time set for Arizona game
San Diego State’s Dec. 20 game against Arizona in Phoenix will start at 7:30 p.m. PST, the schools announced Wednesday. ESPN2 will carry the nonconference game live from Mortgage Matchup Center, home of the NBA’s Suns.
Arizona leads the all-time series 25-7 and is 4-0 against San Diego State in games played at neutral sites. The last time the teams met was on Nov. 22, 2022, when the Wildcats beat the Aztecs 87-60 in the semifinals of the Maui Invitational. Both teams went on to play in that year’s NCAA Tournament, with SDSU advancing to the national championship game.
Tickets for the Dec. 20 game have yet to go on sale.
