The Galaxy S26 series will be Samsung’s next flagship launch. We’ll likely see the new devices arrive early next year and some significant changes are expected.
However, the changes may not be that significant in at least one department, the camera setup. Samsung has reportedly finalized the camera specs for the three new models due in the coming months.
No significant camera hardware upgrades on the horizon
Samsung is expected to shake up the lineup by replacing the + model with the Edge. Next year’s lineup may have the Galaxy S26 Pro as the base model, the Galaxy S26 Edge in the middle, and the Galaxy S26 Ultra at the top.
The Galaxy S26 Pro’s camera setup is expected to remain virtually unchanged. It may have the same 50-megapixel wide, 12-megapixel ultra-wide, and 10-megapixel 3x optical zoom camera as the Galaxy S25, though there have been rumors of Samsung possibly adopting a new sensor for the main camera.
While the Galaxy S26 Edge may not have a dedicated zoom camera like this year and retain its 200-megapixel wide sensor, the report claims that the ultra-wide camera will be upgraded from 12-megapixel on the Galaxy S25 Edge to 50-megapixel on next year’s model.
Some improvements may be made to the actual sensor, but as it stands, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to feature the same ISOCELL HP2 200-megapixel primary sensor as its predecessor.
It may also have a 50-megapixel ultra-wide and 50-megapixel 5x optical zoom sensor, the same as this year. It’s unclear at the moment if the secondary 10-megapixel 3x optical zoom sensor will be exactly the same as well or an upgraded unit.
Samsung is evidently relying more on its software processing and AI capabilities to elevate the imaging experience, rather than going all out on camera hardware, much to the annoyance of tech fans.
