The first Android XR headset is launching on October 21, and Samsung has laid out some ground rules before the Galaxy device is official.
Samsung officially launched its Galaxy reservation program for its Android XR headset, and the company confirmed that it would be launching the product in late October. All of that means the wheels are moving and the company is closer to releasing an Apple Vision Pro competitor.
Prior to its full announcement, Samsung has released some details regarding safety and usage pertaining to the headset (via SammyGuru). For one, Samsung is limiting user age to 13 and above. The company makes note of general fitment and eye safety concerns for young users. The guidelines also make users aware of the risk of seizures with flashing lights, as well as dizziness from prolonged use.
Unsurprisingly, the guidelines confirm that Samsung’s Galaxy Android XR headset is not meant to be worn with glasses. Even hard contact lenses are specified because they may interfere with eye tracking, making it inconsistent. Soft contacts are fine, however. This is similar to most VR/XR headsets. There simply isn’t enough room for a pair of glasses while the headset is on, and the Apple Vision Pro headset meets the same limitations with contact choices.
Samsung notes that lens kits will be available for those who need adjustment.
Reservations are open for Samsung’s first Android XR headset, and the same rules as previous Galaxy Reservation periods apply. It’s free to sign up, and no purchase is actually required. Still, it’s an easy way to get $100 off the device when it becomes fully available.
