The transition to silicon-carbon batteries from Samsung’s end will take some time because the company’s Galaxy S26 Ultra is rumored to arrive with the same capacity as the previous-generation models, meaning that one of the most premium Android flagships of 2026 will continue to ship with a 5,000mAh cell. Fortunately, there is a silver lining in all of this because the latest rumor claims that Samsung will finally break the 45W charging ceiling, meaning that the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s battery can be topped up faster.

There were a ton of rumors going back and forth concerning Samsung’s decision to increase the battery capacity on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, even going as far as to say that the top-end smartphone arriving next year could sport a large 7,000mAh cell if the company gravitated to silicon-carbon technology. Unfortunately, the tipster Ice Universe has gone on Weibo to deliver a disappointing update, at least in one area, because he states that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will feature a 5,000mAh battery, which is the same capacity since Samsung launched the Galaxy S20 Ultra back in 2020.
Thankfully, at least Samsung is upping the maximum wattage supported by the Galaxy S26 Ultra to 60W, allowing the battery to be topped up faster. When asked why the Galaxy S25 Edge does not feature a silicon-carbon battery, a Samsung executive responded that the sleek flagship relies on agentic AI for improved efficiency, so perhaps we will get to see the same additions in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Then again, there is only so much that software optimizations can bring to the table, and much sooner, the physical battery becomes the limiting factor.
We cannot confirm whether the S Pen enclosure’s taking up valuable space is preventing Samsung from adding a bigger capacity, but if the company can finally find a way past that 45W charging limit, there is no reason why it cannot add a bigger battery.
