Samsung Health is suddenly going to be a lot more useful for a very specific group of people. The app is adding three new features powered by three different partnerships, including telehealth visits, medication management, and new workout videos. Samsung Health’s new features could be heading into “premium” territory with new company partnerships.
Samsung has hit a point where the Health app has officially gone beyond fitness tracker and dipped into lifestyle management. A new announcement from the company states that the Health app is partnering with three different companies for several new feature additions.
The first incorporation will be powered by HealthTap — a company that specializes in telehealth treatment. Samsung Health will be able to connect users to a doctor virtually. With that, messaging and appointment scheduling will allow Samsung Health users to manage upcoming visits and ask questions.
Medication management is the second big feature. This tool will expand on Samsung’s existing medication management tool, which relies solely on user input. A partnership with Walgreens will make the Health Records feature possible, which will require users to connect their Walgreens account to the app. In doing so, new and existing prescriptions will appear in the app’s medication tracker.
iFIT is partnering with Samsung, as well. The company says “premium fitness content” will be available through the Health app with iFIT. The integration adds workout routine videos through a variety of categories. Presumably, this addition will also require a subscription or membership with the partnered company.
The notion to add telehealth, advanced prescription management, and workout content is always welcome, but it wouldn’t be shocking if these features were to get lost in the weeds simply becuase they require another account connection in order to work.
On the other hand, one could also argue that without these partnerships, the features would be barebones and lack any true, prolonged value.
This comes as Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 8 series launched recently, and some were worried that the new watch series might bring more premium health features locked behind a paywall. These features don’t seem to be specifically targeted at wearable users, though they’ll likely be incorporated into Samsung’s mobile Health app variants.
Samsung says the new features will “progressively” roll out starting on September 8.
