Samsung halts One UI 8 rollout for Galaxy S22 amid possible firmware issue

Samsung started rolling out the One UI 8.0 update for the Galaxy S22 series at the beginning of October. Now, it appears that the company halted the update process globally.

The reasons for this stoppage are unknown, but typically, when this happens, it means that Samsung has identified an issue with the firmware and has temporarily halted the update to prepare a hotfix.

We have confirmed through multiple sources that, as of this writing, the One UI 8 firmware for the Galaxy S22 series is no longer available on Samsung’s update servers. Everything’s back to One UI 7.

Of course, if you have already updated your Galaxy S22 to One UI 8, then there’s no going back. All you can do is sit tight and hope that whatever issues the update may cause won’t affect your day-to-day experience with your device.

We haven’t noticed anything unusual on our Galaxy S22 units after the One UI 8 update. In fact, everything seemed fine, and the S22 even seemed more responsive running on the latest update.

Either way, if you are using the Galaxy S22, S22+, or S22 Ultra, there isn’t much you can do. If you haven’t updated to One UI 8 yet, then you no longer can, for the time being. And if you did, there’s no going back to One UI 8.0. In either case, all you can do is wait for Samsung to resume the rollout and/or release a hotfix to address whatever might be wrong.

Android 16 is the last major firmware update for the Galaxy S22 series. Both the ongoing One UI 8.0 update and the upcoming One UI 8.5 version are based on Android 16, so this isn’t the last time we’ll be hearing from the S22 lineup. It will receive One UI 8.5 next year. Stay tuned.
