Samsung started beta testing Wear OS 6-based One UI 8 Watch for the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Watch 7 in the US and South Korea in late June. Now, in a very un-Samsung move, instead of releasing a second beta, the company has closed the beta program and pushed the stable One UI 8 Watch firmware to at least one model from its 2024 watch lineup.

Possibly the last big hurrah
At its Unpacked event earlier this month, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch Ultra (2025) running One UI 8 Watch. While these new wearables will be the first to launch with Wear OS 6 out of the box, Samsung is already rolling out the One UI 8 Watch update to last year’s Galaxy Watch Ultra — ahead of the retail release of its 2025 smartwatch lineup. This makes them the first among existing Wear OS watches to receive the Wear OS 6 update.
Samsung has announced the closure of the One UI 8 Watch beta program and is pushing out a 162MB stable update to Galaxy Watch users who were in the program.
Typically, the company waits a few days before rolling out the full stable update to regular users. But that doesn’t seem to be the case this time, as multiple Galaxy Watch Ultra users on Reddit on T-Mobile and AT&T networks in the US report receiving the full 1.9GB update.
Despite being released in July, the Wear OS 6 firmware for the Galaxy Watch Ultra contains the May 2025 security patch. So far, we have not seen reports from Galaxy Watch 7 owners about getting the stable One UI 8 Watch build on their units. But this should change sooner rather than later.
For now, the stable firmware appears to be live only in the US, but it should roll out to other markets soon.
One UI 8 Watch introduces new health features to Galaxy Watch Ultra
As previously detailed by Samsung, One UI 8 Watch adds new health features to the Galaxy Watch Ultra and older models. This includes Bedtime Guidance that will recommend a time you go to sleep based on your sleep pressure and circadian rhythm to promote “alertness.” There’s also Vascular Load that determines the stress on your circulatory system and suggests remedies to improve your heart health.
The Antioxidant Index uses the BioActive sensor to measure carotenoids, an antioxidant found in some food items, present in your skin. It then gives you a score out of 100.

At a starting price of $650, the Galaxy Watch Ultra is Samsung’s most premium wearable to date. It’s made for outdoor athletes, offering a huge battery, durable materials, and quick access to exercise tracking.
