Salma Hayek’s Plunging Gown Puts a Tailored Twist on the LBD

  • Salma Hayek made a chic appearance at the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women dinner in New York City on September 11.
  • Like many other celebrities, she opted for a timeless little black dress—with a twist.
  • She paired her tailored plunging black gown with a slick half-up ponytail and diamond earrings.

Little black dresses were the unofficial dress code of the day at the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women dinner in New York City last night on September 11. Dakota Johnson rocked a sheer lace Gucci number that put a naked dress twist on the classic LBD. Meanwhile, Demi Moore also played with the classic, wearing her own Gucci number with a hip-high slit. Then there was Salma Hayek, who added a tailored twist to the iconic LBD.

Hayek’s strapless gown featured a dramatic plunging neckline and a tailored waist. The dress featured a double breasted buttoned design before falling in a straight skirt, with a subtle thigh-high slit thanks to the buttoned structure of the dress.

She showed off the sparkly jewelry with a slick half-up ponytail. In recent years, Hayek has opted to wear her hair with its natural grays while walking the red carpet.

Hayek walked the red carpet with her husband, Kering CEO François-Henri Pinault, who coordinated with his wife in a black suit.

Hayek’s appearance comes just a few days after the actress rung in her 59th birthday with a red hot bikini picture on Instagram. “59 trips around the sun and still dancing ☀️💃🏻 cheers to all of you & thank you for the love 🎂🎉♥️,” Hayek wrote in the caption.

As Hayek nears her 60th birthday milestone, she is speaking up more about ageism in Hollywood. She has “[a] calling that I have is to remind everyone that women are not disposable after a certain age in any department,” she said to Marie Claire. “We should battle that with all we’ve got.”

“There was a time when I was the sexy girl, but thank God age came and gave me the ability to expand to other territories,” she went on. “Although I’m still sexy and I embrace it.”
