We’re one day closer to Apple officially announcing the iPhone 17 Pro, and Majin Bu has one more rumor about something that could happen. This time it’s over a change to the iPhone 17 Pro antenna system…
Citing a source, Majin Bu says Apple will reposition the antenna system around the giant new camera bar on the rear of the iPhone 17 Pro:
According to my source, Apple is set to introduce a significant structural change in the iPhone 17 Pro: the repositioning of antennas around the rear camera module. This design choice mirrors the approach used in the Apple Watch Ultra, where antennas are strategically integrated to maximize reception and signal stability.
As he notes, the design would resemble the antenna system used on the multi-band antenna system used in the Apple Watch Ultra. The difference, of course, is that the iPhone 17 Pro camera module is the size of at least two Apple Watch Ultra displays.
One reason for this change, Majin Bu claims, is that the new placement is ess prone to signal shielding and interference. There is some logic there since we hold our iPhone from the bottom and not over the camera system.
According to Majin Bu, Apple is also making this change to improve how an antenna’s electromagnetic energy is distributed in space. In conventional designs, a user’s grip and nearby metal parts can distort this radiation pattern and limit coverage.
By placing antennas around the camera module, he says, Apple achieves a more consistent main lobe spread, reduces shadow zones in vertical and diagonal directions, and improves efficiency in dense signal environments such as cities or complex indoor spaces.
That level of detail suggests it is not entirely speculative, and Majin Bu has a decent track record.
We expect Apple to officially unveil the iPhone 17 Pro just four weeks from tomorrow, and an event announcement confirming that date will likely happen later this month.
