The latest entry in the EA Sports FC series has officially arrived today in the form of EA Sports FC 26, which has been available in early access for a little while but has only now received its Standard Edition launch across all platforms.
We’ve been hoping to bring you a review of the game today, but it’s been a hectic week and it’ll have to wait a little bit longer – for what it’s worth, we’re probably looking at an 8/10 as things stand.
The majority of the critics seem to feel the same way, with EA Sports FC 26 amassing an 82 average rating on Metacritic at the moment, which is pretty good going considering the previous one only managed a 76 rating at best.
Let’s take a look at some of the EA Sports FC 26 reviews:
“EA Sports FC 26 is a veritable smorgasbord of well-refined modes, improved gameplay mechanics, and never-better player likenesses. No single upgrade defines the experience, but offline players will feel particularly grateful for this year’s litany of realism-focused changes.”
“FC 26 is the best entry to the franchise in the last five years. It hits its predecessor out of the park in every department, and it’s what any football game should strive to be. With intense gameplay and more modes, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. You can easily spend hundreds of hours grinding the gameplay content and improving yourself, while the rewards act as a cherry on top.”
“Two distinct gameplay styles see EA instil genuine change. Manager mode is great, and many areas of Ultimate Team are improved too, with attacking gamers rewarded in particular. EA Sports FC 26 serves up all the teams, all the kits, all the players – and all the goals, all the time.”
“The yearly nature of EA Sports FC typically gets in the way of selling new copies because of just how similar the versions are. FC 26 bucks that trend by giving the single-player side of things the love it had been badly craving for years. Without the shadow of multiplayer balancing looming over things, you have gameplay that is likely to stay the same until FC 27 inevitably comes along.“
“By truly dividing the gameplay between two very distinct presets, EA Sports FC 26 is trying to appeal to everybody. The more methodical Authentic toggle will attract offline Career mode tinkerers, who want to work hard for those scrappy 1-0 wins. Meanwhile, the snappier Competitive option is built for online sweats, who want to force their opponents into submission by burying them in goals. Both feel good in their own ways, and when paired with several new features and refinements, you get a flexible game of football that should please everyone – well, aside from those who simply can’t jive with the franchise’s over-reliance on monetisation.”
“The Competitive preset still favors the attacking team a little too much, and in an attempt to appease every type of football fan, EA Sports FC 26 misses the target. It’s close, though. There are flaws on and off the pitch, yet this is the best the series has been for a short while. It might not walk away with a trophy this year, but it’s getting closer to glory.”
Don’t forget, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members can get access to a 10-hour free trial of EA Sports FC 26 as part of their subscription, so that’s a great way to discover whether you want to pick this up permanently.
For those who are wondering about when EA Sports FC 26 will be added to the main Xbox Game Pass library, we’re assuming that’ll happen around June of next year, so it’s very unlikely to be anytime soon.
