The Washington Commanders and Terry McLaurin have not been able to resolve their contract dispute and now their #1 WR has requested a trade per multiple sources. The Commanders have reportedly been offering less than $30 million per year while McLaurin is seeking more than that. He is on the final year of his last contract extension, and he’s looking to secure his future.
The two sides still have time to work out a deal before the season starts in September, but they will both need to make concessions. McLaurin ended his holdout last week after missing three days of training camp, but he was immediately placed on the PUP list with an ankle injury. He’s been at camp since then signing autographs for fans, and taking pictures with his agent.
Multiple teams have reportedly called Washington about trading for their star WR, but they have all been told no. McLaurin isn’t expected to be traded, and a deal is expected to get worked out, but we’re not there yet, and Adam Peters has some work to do to make that happen.
Over the past two years, at least three wide receivers requested trades: Tee Higgins, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. None were traded in the year in which they made the request.
McLaurin is now the latest WR to seek a trade when failing to land the contract he wanted. https://t.co/Nb0exYptZY

The two sides have been far apart for a while. Zero movement. Both have strong convictions about their stance. Was never going to be easy. Today is no surprise. I’d be shocked if Washington entertained a trade. Also: someone would have to give up a lot to tempt them AND pay big $

Washington wants to compete for the SB. Trading McLaurin does not help accomplish that goal. He’s under contract. If he plays it out, could be tagged or just test FA at that time. See true market value.
