Red Sox lineup: Alex Bregman activated from IL, Roman Anthony sits, rookie at 2B

BOSTON — The Red Sox officially reinstated All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman from the injured list Friday after he missed 43 games with a right quad strain.

Bregman will play third base and bat second in the lineup. Boston and Tampa will play the second game of a four-game series at 7:10 p.m. here at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox won 4-3 over the Rays here Thursday evening. It was their seventh straight victory.

Star rookie Roman Anthony will begin the game on the bench. Marcelo Mayer will start at second base for the fourth time.

Masataka Yoshida will serve as the DH.

Righty Drew Rasmussen (7-5, 2.82 ERA) will start for Tampa. The Red Sox reinstated Hunter Dobbins from the IL after he missed 18 games with a right elbow strain.

Boston optioned utility player David Hamilton and righty reliever Isaiah Campbell to Triple-A Worcester to clear roster spots for Bregman and Dobbins.
