Red Dead Redemption 2 60FPS Upgrade May Finally Be Coming

Put the hat back on

It appears as though Red Dead Redemption 2 could be getting the 60FPS console upgrade we’ve all been waiting for, if new rumours are to be believed.

Although Red Dead Redemption 2 is now nearly seven years old, the game still pulls in an impressive number of players every month.

However, if fans could change one thing about the game, it would be to release it from 30FPS jail on consoles. Since RDR2 never got a patch for the more powerful PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S hardware, it’s only ever been able to hit higher framerates for PC players.

However, it looks like that might be about to change, as a new update from Rockstar Games has fuelled rumours that a new Red Dead Redemption 2 update could be about to drop.

As spotted by X (formerly Twitter) user Synth Potato, Rockstar has allegedly changed the description for Red Dead Redemption 2 on Steam.

As seen in the image they shared, the description has been updated to remove references to the number of accolades won by Red Dead Redemption 2 in favour of a more simplified summary of the game.

This could be due to a new ‘Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced’ version potentially dropping soon, with players being encouraged to purchase that version rather than the older version.

However, Synth Potato also believes this could also hint at a remaster for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

“Rockstar has changed Red Dead Redemption 2’s description on Steam, likely in preparation for the new PS5/XSX remaster,” they posted. “Oblivion did the same thing before announcing Oblivion Remastered. I believe we’ll be hearing about this very soon, 60FPS RDR2 on consoles is coming.”

A potential Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster has been rumoured for quite some time. Back in July, Reddit users noticed that an update on Rockstar’s support site may have accidentally confirmed the remaster’s existence.

Considering that Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most successful AAA games of the past ten years, it’s peculiar that Rockstar hasn’t given the game a next-gen patch at any point in the last five years.

Some popular last-gen games that did receive this kind of treatment include The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Persona 5 Royal.

Since nothing has been confirmed yet though, be sure to take all of this information with a grain of salt and await official word from Rockstar.
