Ram’s electric pickup truck is officially dead

The all-electric Ram pickup truck, which the company promised would offer more range, power, and capability than its rivals, has officially been canceled. Well, for those in the US at least.

Why was Ram’s electric pickup truck canceled?

After already delaying the hyped-up EV pickup several times, Stellantis announced on Friday that it is now discontinuing development of the full-size electric Ram pickup.

Stellantis blamed slowing demand for battery-electric trucks in North America and is part of the company’s broader strategy shakeup.

The Ramcharger, a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV), will take its place and will now be called the Ram 1500 REV.

Stellantis is once again claiming the REEV pickup will “set new benchmarks in the half-ton segment, offering exceptional range, towing capability, and payload performance.”

Ram’s electric pickup was initially expected to arrive by the end of 2024 but was pushed back to 2025, then to 2026. Earlier this year, it was delayed, yet again, until mid-2027. Now, it’s officially been canceled altogether.

The all-electric pickup was expected to draw power from a massive 168 kWh battery, providing 350 miles of range. An even bigger 229 kWh battery pack was expected to be available later, which the company said would provide at least 500 miles of range.

Former CEO Carlos Tavares publicly boasted several times that the Ram’s electric pickup would “outperform all competitors” where it matters, including range, towing capacity, and charging times.

Meanwhile, the former Ramcharger, the REEV version, features a 92 kWh battery, a 3.6 L V-6 engine, a 27-gallon gas tank, and dual electric motors, providing up to 690 miles of range, or what Ram’s CEO, Tim Kuniskis, calls “unlimited.” Ram says it has around 145 miles of electric range.

The REEV is Ram’s most powerful pickup with up to 647 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque. To give you a better idea, the 2025 RAM RHO performance truck only has 540 hp and 521 lb-ft of torque.

Like the Jeep Wagoneer S, the interior is loaded with big screens, including a 14.5″ infotainment, a 12.3″ driver display, and a 10.25″ passenger display.

The Ram 1500 REV, formerly the Ramcharger, is expected to launch in early 2026. We will learn prices closer to launch, but it’s expected to start at around $75,000.
