A race car driver is dead following what race officials have called a medical incident during a race in Winston-Salem.
Bowman Gray Stadium has confirmed the death of driver Robbie Brewer.
On Saturday evening at Bowman Gray, Brewer was pulled from the track in an ambulance.
WXII’s crew said he was removed during the sportsman race after a direct hit with the wall in turn four, following a restart on lap 16.
Track officials then had to peel back the roof of the car to remove Brewer.
Bowman Gray Stadium has released the following statement regarding the incident:
“We are saddened by the passing of Robbie Brewer after he was transported to an area medical facility following an on-track medical incident during last night’s event at Bowman Gray Stadium. Robbie was a talented and passionate racer, and highly respected competitor among his peers. Our thoughts and prayers are with Robbie’s family and friends at this time.
At this time, officials have not shared what the medical incident was.
