Public memorial for Charlie Kirk to be held at State Farm Stadium

PHOENIX (AZFamily/AP) — Memorial arrangements have been announced for late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated while speaking at a Utah university earlier this week.

Turning Point USA announced that a public memorial for Kirk will be held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Sunday, September, 21. Doors will open at 8 a.m., and the program begins at 11 a.m. More information can be found here.

Kirk was killed by a single shot in what police said was a targeted attack, with Utah Governor Spencer Cox calling it a political assassination. Kirk co-founded the nonprofit political organization Turning Point USA, based in Arizona. He had been speaking at a debate hosted by Turning Point at Utah Valley University at the time of Wednesday’s shooting.

A manhunt was launched to find the assassin. On Friday, authorities announced that Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested in connection with the deadly shooting on suspicion of capital murder, weapons and obstruction offenses.

Robinson had become “more political” in the run-up to the shooting and mentioned during a dinner with family that Kirk would be visiting Utah, Gov. Spencer Cox told a news conference. The governor cited as evidence engravings on bullet casings found in the rifle that authorities believe was used in the attack, as well as chat app messages attributed to the suspect that a roommate shared with law enforcement.

Kirk was flown to Arizona aboard Air Force Two, with Vice President JD Vance escorting his casket inside Hansen Mortuary Chapel in Phoenix earlier this week.
