PS5’s New Power Saver Feature Confirms Its First Supported Games

PS5's New Power Saver Feature Confirms Its First Supported Games 1

You may recall PS5’s new Power Saver feature, announced as a new option for Sony’s console.

It’ll be included as a system toggle in a new firmware update, due out this week, as reported earlier today.

But now we have confirmation of the first three games which will support it: Demon’s Souls, Ghost of Yotei, and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

All three titles will be getting patches in the future to enable the feature, and you’ll obviously need to enable the Power Saving mode in your system settings as well.

You can do that by following these three steps, once you’ve installed the update:

  • Go to Settings > System
  • Select Power Saving > Power Saver for Games
  • Turn on Use Power Saver and select which games you want to play using power saver

It’s unclear exactly how Power Saver will impact your experience in these games, but Sony says it’ll “scale back performance […] to reduce power consumption”. We’d expect lower framerates and resolutions, a bit like when you put your phone in Battery Saver mode.

What’s interesting about all this is, despite the platform holder billing the Power Saver as some form of net-zero initiative, some hypothesise this could formulate part of the plan for PlayStation’s rumoured handheld.

There’s been talk for quite some time of Sony adding a “reduced bandwidth” mode to the PS5 which would allow it to run games on a lower specification piece of hardware. And the Power Saver is doing essentially that.

We’ll certainly be interested to see how this trio of supported titles perform with the mode enabled, as it could give us a rough indication of what to expect from Sony’s purported portable.

Will you be testing the Power Save feature out? Let us know below.
