The PlayStation Plus games for August were recently announced, with the latest lineup’s offerings of: Lies of P, My Hero: One’s Justice 2, and DayZ hitting the service on August 5. One big surprise this time around was that the reveal came a full day earlier than the normal window. PlayStation Plus has been on more of an active streak in the past couple of months, as the service has been celebrating its 15th year, officially starting on June 29. This was preceded by the State of Play showcase and the related Days of Play deals that kicked off earlier that month.
To mark the milestone, Sony has added more games than usual to PS Plus since then, along with other extra goodies like promotional giveaways and a handful of new avatars from popular titles for subscribers. And now, with the newest list being announced one day early, this break from the norm could be a hint that the longstanding and expected announcement days or times might not be as set in stone going forward.
July’s PS Plus titles were also announced a couple of hours earlier than the standard timeframe.

Sony Has Previously Been Pretty Consistent With PS Plus Reveal Dates
The PS Plus structure has evolved multiple times since its inception, with various tiers of increasing price later introduced to match the greater number (and at times, the perceived desirability or quality) of titles and access to the classic catalog. For many years after the rollout of PlayStation Plus, the announcement of the upcoming Essential games would most often come on the last Wednesday of each month. The three titles themselves would then hit the service on the first Tuesday of the next month, usually being available to download starting at 1 PM EST. The Extra and Premium and inclusions came a few weeks later, around the middle of the month.
Though there have been a few deviations here and there, Sony has largely adhered to this pattern for Playstation Plus for a good while, and players have become accustomed to reliably expecting the above. But given that July’s reveals came a little earlier (though still on the normal Wednesday) and now with August’s PS Plus games being posted an entire day ahead, there’s the chance that this means Sony is considering altering when the reveals drop more frequently, which would be an interesting turn for the service.
Why August’s PS Plus Reveal Timing Curveball Could Indicate a Changeup to the Approach in the Future
Sony hasn’t exactly stated why the above was the case for the most recent lineups. It could be the case that it was part of the PlayStation Plus special anniversary marathon as a nice surprise and treat for subscribers, making it an exception to the rule and a minor, though not unwelcome, blip in the process. It’s entirely possible that things will return to business as usual for the rest of the year and ostensibly going forward.
Nevertheless, it does beg the question of whether this will affect PlayStation Plus in terms of announcement dates. While it’s likely more of a stretch to imagine that Sony will change when the titles actually hit PS+, this recent unexpected shift opens the conversation to the thought that it may be pondering significant alterations to when it lets players know the upcoming games. By revealing them earlier, it could generate more hype ahead of time, or let fans better prepare depending on the games chosen. Time will tell for now, but it’s certainly something to keep in mind, and it will be intriguing to see if, or how, this might impact the service down the line.
