Prince Harry’s Friends Detail His Mood As He Arrives In the U.K. for a 4-Day Visit

  • Prince Harry has arrived in the U.K. for a four-day visit, which marks his longest trip back to his home country since his grandmother Queen Elizabeth died three years ago on September 8, 2022.
  • The Duke of Sussex has a jam-packed itinerary, mostly meeting with charities he supports, but hope persists that he will have the opportunity to meet up with his father, King Charles, in the brief window that both men are in London.
  • The King remains at Balmoral in Scotland, but will be in London on September 10 to receive cancer treatment; this looks to be the most likely day for father and son to meet up, if it happens at all.

Prince Harry—who has arrived in the U.K. for a four-day visit, his longest trip to his home country since his grandmother Queen Elizabeth’s death three years ago today—would like his wife Meghan Markle and their kids Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to join him for future trips, a friend has said.

“He’s not given up hope on bringing his family back to the U.K.,” the friend told The Times. “He wants to be able to show his children where he grew up. He wants them to know their family here. He really would like to come back to the U.K. much more.”

Though Harry’s friend says he is “going to have some fun” this week, he will also be there to support various charity organizations he is involved with, including attending the WellChild Awards today and interacting with the Invictus Foundation, the Diana Award, and Scotty’s Little Soldiers later in the week. His visit will be “jam-packed with hardly any downtime,” leaving the question on the table—will he meet up with his father, King Charles, for the first time in 19 months?

“He’s made it absolutely clear he wants a reconciliation with his family,” a friend said. “It’s on them now.” The Times reported that there is currently “no direct communication at all at the moment” between Charles and Harry, and The Daily Mail reported that, if the meetup happens at all, it would likely take place on September 10, when both men are in London. Charles remains at Balmoral in Scotland, where the royal family typically spends their late summers, but he will be in town for cancer treatment on Wednesday. The Daily Mail reported that “Wednesday is Harry’s quietest day” in terms of his schedule this week, and the outlet reported that if an invitation to meet with his father is extended, “Harry would drop everything to attend,” the publication reported.

“A meeting with Charles is not off the table, but the only people who would know about it are Clive Alderton [the King’s private secretary] and Charles and Harry,” a source said. “If anything is planned, then he is keeping this extremely close to his chest. It certainly is part of his intention to see his father. If it’s on Wednesday, then he would make it work.”

Harry is looking for a “purely positive” trip to the U.K., The Daily Mail reported, with a source saying that Harry “is here on a one-man mission to reconnect with all his charities, not go down to the pub with his mates.” The positivity aspect of the trip is a sentiment echoed by The Times, with sources reporting that the Duke of Sussex is “forward-focused” and “in a really good headspace, looking forwards.”

“He is excited to be on the ground, helping organizations where he can,” the insider said. “He’s pumped for the visit. He’s happy.”
