Nearly three months after Prince Harry’s plea for reconciliation in an emotional May 2 BBC interview, the Duke of Sussex has taken a major step forward in that effort, offering a significant olive branch to members of the royal family.
After Harry and wife Meghan Markle left their roles as working royals in January 2020, it would make sense that they no longer felt the need to sync their calendars with the royal family. Over the past five years, this has meant that sometimes the couple’s public-facing events have clashed with public-facing events undertaken by members of the royal family—but that will soon no longer be the case.

According to People, Harry has taken part in a “quiet peace offering” by agreeing to share his official schedule with the royal family, which would not only help avoid schedule clashes in the future but could also provide a runway for Harry to meet up eventually with his father, King Charles. This move “appears to be the latest attempt to ease tension between the sides after years of estrangement,” People wrote.
The Mail on Sunday reported a diary clash just this month as Harry’s recent visit to Angola—where he recreated a landmine walk once done by his mother, Princess Diana, in 1997—which took place at the same time as Queen Camilla’s 78th birthday earlier this month. This olive branch move from Harry would ensure that doesn’t happen again, or at least happens with less frequency.

This news comes after a July 9 private meeting between two of Harry’s aides and the King’s communications secretary, which a source told People “was a good first step.”
“It is always better to be talking,” the insider continued, calling it “a positive step” and adding that “There’s optimism that it can be taken forward.”
Back in May, Harry told the BBC that he would “love reconciliation with my family”: “There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” the Duke of Sussex said.
