Popular restaurant chain files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Another national restaurant chain has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. According to Newsweek, Bravo Brio Restaurants — which owns Bravo! Italian Kitchen and Brio Italian Grille — filed for protection Monday.

Much like other restaurant chains that filed for Chapter 11 in 2025, the company says rising costs, lower demand and other “insurmountable” pressures on the industry are causes for the move. Bravo Brio previously filed for bankruptcy in 2020 and emerged from the proceedings a few months later after it was acquired by Earl Enterprises.

According to court filings, the company has assets and liabilities between $50 million to $100 million and between 200 and 999 creditors. The company aims to use the bankruptcy process to seek new investors and find a stronger financial footing.

“The bankruptcy process is generally expected to be seamless for Bravo! and Brio’s guests, employees and vendors, and result in minimal disruption to operations,” the company said.

It’s been a tough year for many national restaurant chains as market demand continues to shift. Numerous chains have announced they’re filing for bankruptcy protection and/or closing locations due to ongoing financial struggles.

In February, Red Robin announced it was planning to close 10 to 15 locations this year, while 70 restaurants will be evaluated for possible closure. In March, On the Border confirmed it was closing numerous locations as part of the Chapter 11 process. That same month, Bar Louis also shuttered several restaurants while announcing it had filed for Chapter 11 protection.

In June, Hooters closed multiple restaurants months after it entered the Chapter 11 process. In July, Wahlburgers confirmed it has closed 79 restaurants in 2025.
