How to get shiny Quaxly

Shiny Quaxly, shiny Quaxwell and shiny Quaquaval are being released at the start of this Community Day event, meaning this is your first opportunity to catch a shiny Quaxly in Pokémon Go!

Unfortunately, this shiny is a little naff… Shiny Quaxly swaps its normal blue coiffe for a very soft teal. It does the same with its feet. Shiny Quaxwell does something similar by inverting its blues and teals (barring its eyes). Finally, we have shiny Quaquaval – the ‘what if we drop the blue slider’ shiny. It’s perfectly ok as a shiny (if a little low effort), and entirely conceivable that you’d see that colour combination on the dancefloor.

All in all, this shiny family is pretty mid, as you can see below.

Every Community Day sees the shiny odds for its chosen Pokémon – in this case Quaxly – increased. As such, you shouldn’t have much trouble tracking down a shiny Quaxly! Simply keep clicking on Quaxly until you see a shiny one. Of course, if you want to increase your chances further, you can always use an Incense to boost the number of Quaxly spawns you encounter.

Quaxly 100% perfect stats in Pokémon Go

July’s Community Day is the perfect time to find a Quaxly with perfect IV stats. These are 15/15/15 stats you’re looking for to create a maxed out, 100% IV Pokémon, for your 4* Pokédex, raids and Master League.

If you’re at least Level 30 (or above), you’ll ideally be looking for the following CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Quaxly:

• Level 30 (wild CP maximum) – 921 CP
• Level 35 (weather-boosted wild CP maximum) – 998 CP

The wild CP value aligns with your Trainer Level until you reach Level 30 and, due to the majority of the player base now being above this level, we’ve kept to these values for the sake of simplicity. These values will, however, be different if you’re currently below Level 30.

Quaxly’s Community Day move

If you evolve a Quaxwell into Quaquaval between the beginning of the event at 10pm (local time) on Sunday 27th July, Quaquaval will know Hydro Cannon – a powerful Water-type Charged Attack! On top of this, it’s also unlocking the ability to learn its signature move, Aqua Step.

While the exclusive move Hydro Cannon is available for longer than your typical Community Day (an entire week!), we recommend getting it during the event hours of 2pm to 5pm (local time). It’s too easy to finish playing, start dinner and then forget to evolve your Pokémon. Ideally speaking, wait until the end of the event (or your play session) so you can evolve the Pokémon with the best IVs into the strongest Quaquaval.

Best Quaquaval moveset recommendation in Pokémon Go

Historically, Quaquaval has been a mid-tier Water-type attacker and an awful Fighting-type attacker. This community day does nothing for the latter, but access to two new Water-type attacks is going to help shake things up a little.

As for PVP, Quaquaval is also lacklustre in Go Battle League. As of this Community Day, our recommendation for Quaquaval’s best moveset in Pokémon Go is Wing Attack as a Fast Move with Hydro Cannon and Close Combat as Charged Moves. This moveset takes advantage of Quaquaval’s Water and Fighting-type moveset.

That said, Close Combat is one of those attacks that nuke your own defence, so should really be used either as a last resort or when it will win you the match. Depending on how cheap Aqua Step is in terms of energy cost, there might be an argument for dropping Close Combat and running this move instead, since it buffs your attack by one stage. The obvious downsides to this plan are losing your nuke and a good coverage attack.

You may also want to use a Lucky Egg and Star Piece – for double XP and sextuple Stardust retrospectively – during Quaxly’s Community Day. This amount of Stardust is going to really help boost the amount you can level up your Pokémon, so don’t sleep on it!
