PC Gamers Have Until August 3 to Claim 13 Games for Free

PC gamers have the chance to snag 13 free games for their digital libraries, but they have to claim them by 7:00pm CST on Sunday, August 3. Between Prime Gaming, the Epic Games Store, Steam, and GOG, PC gamers are regularly treated to more free games than they know what to do with.

Lately, PC gaming has found itself at the center of a controversy. Thousands of “adult” games have disappeared from platforms like Steam after the group Collective Shout lobbied payment processing companies like MasterCard, PayPal, Visa, and others. This has caused an uproar about censorship, as many have expressed their belief that these companies should not be dictating what games they purchase. Now GOG has teamed with various game publishers in response, giving away 13 games for free.

A petition protesting Steam’s recent guideline changes blows up as the Valve-owned storefront moves forward with its controversial decision.

To mark the launch of FreedomToBuy, GOG is giving away 13 games for free. The games will only be free for 48 hours, with the clock on the FreedomToBuy site counting down to 7:00pm CST on August 3. As long as PC gamers manage to claim the games before then, they can keep them forever with no strings attached. GOG is doing the giveaway and launching the site to bring awareness to the censorship issue and take a stand against it. “Some games vanish. Not because they broke the law, but because someone decided they shouldn’t exist,” GOG said. With the launch of the site, GOG said it is “taking a stand against the quiet erasure of creative works from digital shelves.” Those interested in claiming the free games can visit FreedomToBuy, and as long as they do so by August 3 at 7:00pm CST, they should have no problems.

Helping the Hotties is listed in the press release as one of the free games, but it is not appearing on the FreedomToBuy site at the time of this writing.

The games selected for the giveaway are all adult-oriented titles, and so PC gamers should keep that in mind. Postal 2 is one of the most controversial games of all time, while horror game Agony originally received an Adults Only rating from the ESRB. The giveaway includes the unrated version of Agony with its content restored along with other features. House Party is a quirky 3D adventure game inspired by 90s comedy movies, while Sapphire Safari is an open world photography game where players snap photos of “Monster Girls.”

In the meantime, there are other free PC game giveaways going on right now. Steam is giving away a racing game as part of its latest store event, while the Epic Games Store has a pair of titles up for grabs until August 7.
