Paris Jackson has opened up about how drug use has “ruined her life” and left her with a perforated septum.
The 27-year-old is a singer, model, and actor, and the daughter of the late Michael Jackson. She has been open about her struggle with drugs and mental health over the years, and has now revealed that the former has led to her having a perforated septum.
Sharing a video, she told fans about the injury and showed it using a phone torch – saying that it was the first time she has spoken publicly about it.
“I realise I have never actually addressed this, and it can sometimes be very noticeable,” she began. “I have a really loud whistle, if you go back to videos, you can hear it when I breathe through my nose, and that is because I have what is called a perforated septum.”
The NHS outlines that a perforated septum can be caused by various factors, including cocaine use, or inserting objects like cotton buds into the nose.
Differentiating it from a deviated septum, Jackson continued: “It’s what you think it’s from. Don’t do drugs kids […] Everyone is going to have the experience they need to have with life, I’m not going to tell anyone what to do, but I don’t recommend it because it ruined my life.”

She also revealed that she will not be undergoing a surgical correction as she thinks the procedure could put her sobriety at risk.
“I’m almost six years sober, and so you have to take pills when you do a surgery that gnarly, and I don’t want to fuck with that,” she explained, adding that she has had the issue since she was 20, and it has caused her issues when recording vocals in the past.
As highlighted by The Independent, the announcement from Jackson comes shortly after she celebrated her five years of sobriety on Instagram, and expressed the joy she has felt since recovering from being “an alcoholic and a heroin addict”.
Before then, Jackson spoke candidly in 2017 about an attempted suicide, and told Willow Smith in 2021 that she was “really grateful that it didn’t [work out]” because since then, “things have gotten better”.
Last year saw the singer hint at new music, and tell fans that the personal topics she explores in some of her latest lyrics may be “hard for some people to hear”.
She is still working on the follow-up to her 2020 debut LP ‘Wilted’, but did drop a three-track EP called ‘The Lost’ in 2022 and some standalone singles in 2023 called ‘Bandaid’ and ‘Hit Your Knees’. It is not yet known if either of those two songs will be released as part of an upcoming record.
Also in 2023 Jackson went on tour across America, opening for Silversun Pickups, and performed at a number of festivals including Bonnaroo, Bottlerock and the baseball-themed Innings Festival.
Earlier this year, she clarified that she had “zero per cent involvement” in the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, which is currently scheduled to release in April next year, and had the trailer recently become the most-watched of any music biopic ever.
