Packers work out 2 on Monday

Generally, the Green Bay Packers work out players on Tuesdays, an off day for their players. Instead, the Packers brought in two players today, according to the NFL transaction wire. Don’t be surprised if they bring in a big group tomorrow, too, if workouts are already spilling over into Monday on a Sunday game week.

The players brought in on Monday were running back Michael Wiley and safety Maxen Hook.

Wiley was an undrafted free agent out of Arizona in 2024 who originally signed with the Washington Commanders out of college. He spent all of last season on the team’s practice squad but was released back in July. He was picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs in August, where he spent two weeks before being cut at the 53-man roster deadline.

He was picked in the UFL’s college draft in 2024 as a sixth-rounder for the DC Defender, but he’s never signed with the spring league.

Hook is the former college roommate of Philadelphia Eagles first-round pick Quinyon Mitchell. Unsurprisingly, when Hook went undrafted this past spring, he signed with the Eagles.

Since being released at roster cutdowns, Hook has had workouts with the New York Giants, Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans. He was a four-time All-MAC defender during his five-year college career at Toledo and was a participant in the 2025 Senior Bowl.

At the moment, the Packers do have two open roster spots on their 53-man roster, due to receiver Jayden Reed and defensive end Brenton Cox Jr. going on the injured reserve. Whether or not they want to add players to the active roster before their Week 5 bye week is still up in the air, as they seemed to be in no rush to fill that void last week, despite having a 10-day gap between games.

At the moment, the Packers’ practice squad running back is Pierre Strong Jr., a former fourth-round pick and Tucker Kraft’s college teammate at South Dakota State. He was signed by Green Bay in Week 2.

The Packers have two safeties on the practice squad, Johnathan Baldwin, an undrafted rookie who signed with Green Bay immediately after the draft, and Jaylin Simpson, a 2024 fifth-round pick who was signed by the team in August.
