Packers News, 8/1: Rough week for first two regular season opponents

The Green Bay Packers are gearing up for the unofficial kickoff of their season as they will hold their annual Family Night at Lambeau Field this Saturday. The annual tradition is as ingrained as riding bicycles to practice, and it’s always a fun and exciting evening for players and fans alike.

A scan around the league finds that a couple of the Packers’ early opponents in the 2025 regular season are having a bit of a rough week, however. In fact, their opposing teams in weeks 1 and 2 are both working through some issues right now.

Last night, the Detroit Lions participated in the Hall of Fame Game, the NFL’s first preseason game of the summer. They got trounced by the Los Angeles Chargers 34-7, and their head coach is not happy with their preparation. Detroit comes to Lambeau Field in week one and the Packers would be perfectly happy for this dysfunction to continue through into September.

Then we have the Washington Commanders, whose top playmaker on offense wants out amid contentious contract negotiations. Will Terry McLaurin still be on the team come week two? We’ll find out, but it’s not looking great right now.

The Packers have a day off from practice on Friday ahead of Family Night, so let’s all gear up for some fun tomorrow evening.
