Officials detect West Nile virus in three Rhode Island towns and cities

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and Department of Health confirmed detections of West Nile virus in Johnston, East Providence and Cranston.

Officials said other samples collected across the state showed no signs of EEE or additional West Nile virus.

The sample was collected on Aug. 18.

The state’s risk for West Nile virus is now high.
