MagicCon Atlanta kicked off today, featuring Pro Tour Edge of Eternities and a swathe of other great events. However, people have been eagerly awaiting the Preview Panel, which featured new information on upcoming sets, including previews for Lorwyn Eclipsed, Secrets of Strixhaven, and Universes Beyond sets coming next year, like The Hobbit and the next Marvel set. Here’s what we found out about the new Lorwyn set.

Lorwyn Eclipsed is the first set of 2026, releasing in January. We already saw our first peek via some leaks a couple days ago, and it looks phenomenal so far. But now we get to peek in at some official previews for the set kicking off next year!

The first official preview of the panel was Morningtide’s Light, showing the coalescence of the light and darkness of the plane. The card itself is a nice blink/protection spell, not quite a Teferi’s Protection, but pretty exciting nonetheless.

There’s plenty of talk about the night and day aspect of the plane, but don’t worry, daybound/nightbound isn’t returning! Instead, they’re representing day/night using transforming double-faced cards. Eirdu, Carrier of the Dawn represents this mechanic perfectly, swapping between a convoke enabler and a persist enabler.

In case you missed it, Sygg, Wanderwine Wisdom / Sygg, Wanderbrine Shield and Figure of Fable were officially revealed, despite being leaked earlier this week.

Ashling’s back too, as a transforming red/blue elemental. Notice that sorcerer creature type on the front! Mark Rosewater confirmed double-faced cards wouldn’t be a huge part of the set, but they are used on quite a few of the legends of the set.

We also got a look at ECL’s Headliner card! We saw Bitterbloom Bearer in the leaks earlier, but this is a serialized version of the Bitterblossom callback!

As far as returning mechanics, evoke for elementals and changelings were both confirmed as returning mechanics from the original Lorwyn block. Commands have also been confirmed, featuring the returning kindred supertype. It was confirmed this set would have a strong typal theme, though kindred wouldn’t be a colossal part of the set.

We knew the other half of the shocks were coming after the first half came out in Edge of Eternities. These ECL versions are double-sided (same card on both sides) and complete the full shock land cycle for Standard.

If you’re curious about Booster Fun treatments, there’s a new “Fable Frame” that looks similar to the Wilds of Eldraine Enchanting Tales bonus sheet treatment. It looks fun and whimsical, and we’ve got a taste of what that’ll look like. The Headliner and fuzzy little Mutable Explorer will get these treatment, among other cards.

Oh, and let’s not forget about this little guy Deceit, who was previewed after the official Preview Panel ended!

And that’s all the new cards previewed from the set so far! Don’t forget, we’ve still got Avatar: The Last Airbender to go through for 2025, but it’s a promising first look to kick off next year. It’ll be the first in-universe Magic set after almost half a year of Universes Beyond, and people are hyped for it.
