OD Might Have A Real Life Ghost In It As Kojima Takes His Scanning Obsession To The Other Side

We got our first proper look at Hideo Kojima’s return to horror as the trailer for OD premiered at Kojima Productions’ 10th anniversary event. In typical Kojima fashion, the trailer was cryptic and weird, without revealing anything about the plot. In fact, Kojima Productions even went as far as redacting some text to keep us in the dark about the OD‘s plot.

While the trailer had all the trademarks of the celebrated director, it seems that the final game will be even more… Kojima. We all know that the director loves scanning each and every celebrity he comes across. Whether it’s actors, directors, musicians, or even chefs, Kojima has scanned them and added them into his games. However, he’s taking things to the next level for OD, as he’s on a mission to scan a ghost.

Hideo Kojima Wants To Scan A Ghost

In something that sounds right out of his Death Stranding series, Kojima wants to be so faithful to the horror genre, that he not only went to some allegedly haunted places to scan the environment, but also wants to find an actual ghost to scan. Hopefully, he doesn’t get too close to it in the attempt and cause a void out.

“For OD, I want to go around, all over the world where [there] are scary kind of places,” said Kojima at the event, via a translator (thanks GamesRadar). “I want to scan a ghost for the first time and I want to get an award for that.” He also pointed out that the crackling sound in the trailer was recorded in the studio, giving rise to the theory that Kojima Productions might be haunted.

Taking no chances, he admitted to visiting a shrine in order to ensure the game isn’t cursed. “Maybe the ghost was there, but she’s no longer there anymore,” he said. “But anyways, and that’s why we went to the shrine together with Microsoft to make sure that we have a safe build of the game.”

I never took Kojima as the type to believe in ghosts, but I sure can admire his dedication to giving us an authentic horror experience.
