NYPD: Times Square shooting leaves 3 hurt, shooter in custody

Police said three people were wounded after a shooter opened fire in Times Square early Saturday morning.

Officers said they heard gunfire at around 1:20 a.m. near West 44th Street and Seventh Avenue. When police arrived on the scene, they said three people had been injured.

NYPD officials said two men, 19 and 65, were struck along with an 18-year-old woman. They were all taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

No motive is known but police said there was a dispute between the 19-year-old and the alleged shooter.

The suspect was immediately taken into custody but as of Saturday morning charges had not been filed and police have not publicly identified the alleged shooter.

Shootings in New York City atre nearing record lows this year, according to police data, following an uptick during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.
