Google is upgrading Audio Overviews in NotebookLM with three additional formats, like Debate, that provide an alternative to the ever-popular podcast style.
The default experience is called Deep Dive: “Conversational dialogues where two Al hosts unpack your topic with depth, questions.” Google is now adding three more formats:
- Brief: A bite-sized overview to help you grasp the core ideas from your sources quickly. [This is 1-2 minutes long.]
- Critique: An expert review of your sources, offering constructive feedback to help you improve your material.
- Debate: A thoughtful debate between two hosts, illuminating different perspectives on your sources.
Once available, tap the pencil icon in the Audio Overview card. This joins the existing language, length, and prompt-based customization. Those options recently became available for the NotebookLM app on Android and iOS.
The Brief, Critique, and Debate Audio Overview formats are rolling out now, and follows NotebookLM last week updating non-English Audio Overviews in over 80 languages to be “more comprehensive and in-depth.”
Non-English Audio Overviews will now mirror the rich, detailed experience of the English version, providing a more thorough discussion of your sources in all of the supported languages.
Google also brought Video Overviews to those 80+ languages.
