Kenan Stadium will be rocking Monday night with a sellout crowd as Bill Belichick makes his debut as North Carolina football coach. The Tar Heels have seen ticket sales soar since hiring the NFL legend and eight-time Super Bowl champion, and fans now get a prime-time look at his first college game against Sonny Dykes and veteran-laden TCU.
Belichick overhauled the roster with a top-10 transfer class, bringing in 41 players through the portal. Many of those new arrivals are expected to step into key roles, including former South Alabama quarterback Gio Lopez.
The Horned Frogs counter with experience, led by fourth-year junior quarterback Josh Hoover, who threw for nearly 4,000 yards and 27 touchdowns last season on a nine-win team.
North Carolina, which has won three straight openers and is 3-0 all-time against TCU, with the last meeting in 1997. A win Monday would give the ACC another marquee result in Week 1, with as many as four league teams projected to crack Tuesday’s updated AP Top 25.
