Hideo Kojima doesn’t seem particularly interested in playing next month’s Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a faithful remake of the work he did at Konami. When asked if he’ll play it in a new interview with fashion outlet SSense, he laughs and responds simply: “No, I won’t.”
Out for PS5 on 28th August 2025, the remake from Virtous is staying incredibly loyal to the original PS2 versions, lifting the voice acting entirely and staying true to the vision and design of the development team at the time. Even the loading screens between the many areas in the game are coming back.
Of course, Hideo Kojima hasn’t had any involvement in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s development, as he is now leading Kojima Productions as its own business. However, the original team will still be included in the credits, including Hideo Kojima.
The only notable omission will be the lack of a splash screen proudly stating the PS5 remake is “a Hideo Kojima game”. Though, this move is simply following a long-established precedent set by Konami. Last year, producer Noriaki Okamura said:
“It’s always been the case that games Mr Kojima didn’t personally direct don’t have ‘a Hideo Kojima game’. So for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, we decided it just made sense to follow that precedent.”
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater launches for PS5 on 28th August, and looks to be every bit as good as the original, with a few quality-of-life improvements here and there. In a Preview from August 2024, we called it a “fiercely loyal remake” and said: “Without the need for gameplay or story changes, what Konami and Virtuos are doing is tweaking near-perfection. On the basis of the Virtuous Mission, they are going about the endeavour in the correct manner.”
