NJ Transit line suspended through Sunday after derailment

UPDATE: The train that derailed at the Summit Station was an NJ Transit work train, authorities said. An earlier version of this story incorrectly said it was a freight train.

NJ Transit service along the Morris and Essex lines will be suspended through at least Sunday after a train derailment Friday, officials said.

Train service on the Gladstone Branch is suspended until further notice after a slow-speed derailment of an NJ Transit work train Friday at Summit Station, officials said.

NJ Transit rail tickets are being honored by NJ Transit buses and private bus carriers, officials said.

The agency recommended customers monitor the NJ Transit website and social media accounts for updates, alerts and information about service, officials said.
