Nicole Kidman rose to fame in the ‘90s with bright red ringlets, but the Babygirl star’s sleek strawberry blonde hair has become her off-screen calling card in recent years. The Perfect Couple star typically relies on wigs on the red carpet and in films to achieve variations on her signature buttery hue and one-length cut without damaging her real hair. However, on Tuesday, August 19, Kidman gave fans a rare glimpse of her natural curls and hair color while sharing photos of her family’s late summer vacation.
“Summer memories. Now back to school,” the Big Little Lies alum captioned the video, which she shared with her 10.6 million Instagram followers. The summer photo dump kicked off with a video of a curly-haired Kidman wearing a black bodysuit as she dove in the ocean off of a yacht. At the end, the star could be seen for a moment as she came up for air, showing off her wet blonde hair. Kidman proudly embraced her natural strawberry-blonde curls in the subsequent family photos, which showed her wearing a blue patterned crop top dress set as she hugged her daughter Sunday Rose, 17. She also sported the voluminous ringlets while twinning in white dresses with her sister Antonia and her niece Lucia Hawley, 27.
Kidman also revealed that her youngest daughter, Faith Margaret, takes after her in the hair department, sharing a photo of the lookalike 14-year-old’s coils. In the image, the Australian star could be seen from behind embracing her daughter, who showed off middle-parted brown curls and a white halterneck dress.
Kidman has been feeling nostalgic for her ’90s curls, including sharing a throwback video of her curls just a few days earlier. In an Allure May 2025 cover story, the star admitted that she regretted straightening her ringlets while taking a look back at a photo from her 1990 film Days of Thunder.
“Why did I straighten my hair?” she asked. “I loved my hair there. That is my natural hair. Isn’t that crazy?” Kidman shared some words of advice, adding, “So for all the little girls out there, embrace the curl. Do not follow in my steps and straighten your hair. I can do that to my hair still, but it needs to be kind of humid, and I need to use the right product.
