In preseason Week 2, the Kansas City Chiefs are on the road to play the Seattle Seahawks. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. Arrowhead Time. The game will be carried locally on KSHB/41. It will also be available on NFL Network and Chiefs Television Network affiliates across the Midwest.
While the Chiefs are coming off a 20-17 road loss to the Arizona Cardinals last Saturday, its appears that in this matchup, the team will focus on evaluating young players and getting new ones up to speed, rather than collecting a win. Speaking with reporters after the team’s final training camp practice on Wednesday, head coach Andy Reid left open the possibility that star players like quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce and defensive tackle Chris Jones might not play at all. This could mean Reid intends to give significant playing time to his starters in the final preseason matchup against the Chicago Bears next Friday on GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
In the meantime, we should see plenty of work for reserve quarterbacks Gardner Minshew and Chris Oladokun, along with the team’s drafted rookies: first-round rookie left tackle Josh Simmons, second-round defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott, third-round defensive end Ashton Gillotte, third-round cornerback Nohl Williams, fourth-round wide receiver Jalen Royals, fifth-round safety Jeff Bassa and seventh-round running back Brashard Smith.
This game might also be the first time we get to see cornerback Kristian Fulton in a Chiefs uniform. He missed nearly all of training camp while recovering from an offseason cleanup surgery on his knee, but participated in the final three practices in St. Joseph.
