Vappie and his lawyers have not issued a comment.

The indictment emerged after a lengthy corruption investigation that overshadowed her final term as mayor, which ends in January. Together, she and Vappie face 18 felony accounts, including conspiracy, wire fraud, obstruction of justice, false statements and false statements before a grand jury.

Over a year ago, shortly after retiring from the New Orleans Police Department, Vappie was also indicted by a federal grand jury on seven counts of wire fraud and one count of lying to investigators.
