The Charlotte Hornets defeated the Dallas Mavericks, 87-69, at Thomas & Mack Center in the NBA 2K26 Summer League on Monday.
The Hornets (3-0) extended their perfect start in the NBA 2K26 Summer League with a dominant win over the Mavericks (1-2), who didn’t have the first-overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Cooper Flagg. Charlotte quickly moved ahead after the opening quarter and raced to a 23-17 score in the opening 10 minutes, and the Hornets would bolster their lead even further with a 16-13 score in the second quarter.
The offensive execution was sloppy on both ends, but the Hornets always looked in control of the contest and extended their lead in the second half. Following a 31-24 score in the third quarter and a 17-15 score in the final 10 minutes, Charlotte would end up winning by a sizable 18-point margin. The Hornets shot 37.7 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from three-point range. Meanwhile, the Mavericks made only 33.8 percent of their shots and 34.5 percent of their treys.
KJ Simpson led the way for Charlotte with 18 points and seven assists. Kon Knueppel finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds, also adding four assists, a steal and a block. Jaylen Sims had 13 points and three rebounds. No other Charlotte player scored in double digits. Rookie Ryan Kalkbrenner had nine points and five rebounds. PJ Hall also added nine points, and added five rebounds, coming off the bench.
Ryan Nembhard was the only Dallas player who scored in double digits thanks to his 11-point output. He also added eight assists and three rebounds. Maxwell Lewis notched nine points and two boards. Matt Cross had four points and nine boards. Miles Kelly and Obinna Anochili-Killen had seven points each, though the latter did it off the bench.
