Nate Diaz wants one more crack at Conor McGregor.
One of the most beloved fighters in UFC history, Diaz broke into superstardom when he unexpectedly upset Conor McGregor on short notice at UFC 196 in 2016. The win led to his iconic “I’m not surprised, motherf*ckers” line, and a rematch just five months later that McGregor won via majority decision. Since then, the possibility of a third fight has followed the two, and now, nearly a decade since their first encounter, Diaz wants them to run things back again.
“If I could fight anybody right now, I would fight — with all due respect to them — if Conor McGregor came back. Shit, Conor McGregor,” Diaz said on Out Cold. “There ain’t nobody else to fight, really, right now. I would like for him to come back and impress everybody first. Not that he needs to, but it would be great to see him back. Everybody’s hating on him. I’d like to beat up somebody on top of the world, and I think he’s got the capability to do that.”
McGregor has not competed since his TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in their trilogy at UFC 264. He was booked to compete against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 last summer, but withdrew before the bout.
Diaz, meanwhile, has not competed in MMA since 2022, when he submitted Tony Ferguson in his final UFC fight at UFC 279. Since then, Stockton’s finest has had a pair of boxing bouts, first a loss to Jake Paul in 2023, then a majority decision win over Jorge Masvidal last year. And if the McGregor fight doesn’t happen, there are a couple of other matchups he could be interested in.
“Then that little Ilia Topuria, he’s doing a really good job,” Diaz said. “He’s a little small for me, but those two are probably the best fights.
“And then on the boxing side, obviously Canelo or Crawford. I ain’t asking for nothing, but when I whoop someone’s ass, I’m gonna get them motherf*ckers, too. With all do respect. So that’s my plan.”
