Police say multiple people were shot at a casino in Reno, Nevada, on Monday morning, and they have taken a suspect into custody.
The local news outlet KRNV reported that Reno police responded to a report of an active shooter at the Grand Sierra Resort at about 7.25am. Within four or five minutes, officers found the suspect, who was then taken to a hospital after what police described as an officer-involved shooting.
In the US, the phrase “active shooter” frequently refers to someone firing at multiple victims at random, and an officer-involved shooting refers to an officer shooting someone.
The incident started outside near the resort’s valet area and may have extended to other parts of the property, the Reno Gazette reported, citing law enforcement officials.
Officials did not immediately say how many people were shot at the casino and whether any were killed. On social media, the Reno city council member Devon Reese said that “tragically, lives have been lost” at the resort and expressed condolences “for the victims, their families and our entire community”.
Information on the extent of the suspect’s wounds were not immediately available.
This is a developing situation. Check back later for more.
