There hasn’t been a flood of foldables in 2025, but several large competitors have released entries. Namely, the Motorola Razr (2025) lineup comes to mind. According to recent market data, Motorola wiped the floor with Samsung.
“Wiped the floor” may be strong, but it conveys the right idea. Counterpoint Research released a report noting a few key bits of data that show Motorola had a stronger showing than Samsung, though one might be inclined to think otherwise.
The Q2 2025 report details that global foldable smartphone shipments rose 45% YoY. China accounts for most of that, though the US market saw a doubled market share. That indicates that foldables are growing in popularity in the States, even as China sees massive growth with brands like Huawei.
As global market share goes, Motorola came in at 28% after launching the Razr (2025) in April. Last year, the company only took up 14% of shipments. That isn’t an insignificant number, as other OEMs are lumped into an “other” category that occupied 33% in total.

Samsung claimed 9% in Q2 2025, down from the healthy 21% market share in Q2 2024. That fall doesn’t necessarily indicate that Samsung is failing to sell phones. It might simply mean that other manufacturers are putting together highly competitive products.
It’s also vital to remember that Q2 2025 doesn’t account for Samsung’s brand-new releases, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. Reportedly, those devices have sold very well and continue to do so as Samsung moves to boost production to meet a high demand.
The Motorola Razr (2025) series is highly rated and reasonably priced compared to Samsung’s 2024 devices. The Razr has also boasted a full-cover display for two generations, while the Galaxy Z Flip 6 equips the same mini cover display it has for several iterations.
It will be interesting to see the data surface for Q3 2025, as it appears Samsung has hit a resurgence in the foldable market. An overall view of the year’s market share analysis and shipment data might paint a bigger picture, though it’s fair to say that Motorola dominated Q2 2025 in the US. As for the global market, Samsung, Motorola, and Google have a lot of work to do.
