Season 4 of “Monster,” Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s crime anthology series, has entered production in Los Angeles just days after the Netflix release of Season 3.
“Monster” Season 4 stars Ella Beatty as Lizzie Borden, who was accused of the 1892 axe murder of her father and stepmother in Massachusetts. Though she was eventually acquitted, the case attracted nationwide attention and Borden remains a pop culture fascination to this day.
Along with Borden, the cast includes Charlie Hunnam — who leads “Monster” Season 3 as Ed Gein — as Lizzie’s father, Andrew Jackson Borden; Rebecca Hall as Lizzie’s stepmother, Abby; Billie Lourd as Lizzie’s sister, Emma Borden; Jessica Barden as the actress Nance O’Neill, who was Lizzie’s friend; and Vicky Krieps as the Borden family’s maid, Bridget Sullvan.
“Monster” premiered in 2022, when Netflix released “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” starring Evan Peters as the titular serial killer. The season achieved 115.6 million views in its first 91 days of streaming and remains Netflix’s No. 4 most popular English-language TV title of all time. Peters won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Emmy for the role, while Niecy Nash-Betts, who played Dahmer’s neighbor Glenda, earned a Golden Globe nomination and won an Emmy. Season 2, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” starring Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch, premiered in 2024. Koch, Chloë Sevigny and Javier Bardem all received Emmy nominations for their roles. Season 3, “Monster: The Ed Gein Story,” premiered on Friday and hit 12.2 million views in its first three days of streaming.
