The morning after his team’s preseason finale, New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel announced the first wave of players that have been cut.

Vrabel opened up his press conference on Friday by revealing that he and Eliot Wolf had met with the following players and informed them that they planned to cut them:

  • LB R.J. Moten
  • WR Phil Lutz
  • DT Kyle Peko
  • TE Cole Fotheringham
  • DL Philip Blidi
  • QB Ben Wooldridge
  • DB Jordan Polk
  • LB Monty Rice
  • OL Sidy Sow
  • RB Shane Watts
  • TE Jaheim Bell
  • DB Isaiah Bolden
  • RB Micah Bernard
  • OL Tyrese Robinson

The most notable names in that group are Bell, Sow and Bolden. All three players were Patriots draft picks in the last couple of seasons.

Bell was a seventh-round pick out of Florida State in 2024. Sow was a fourth-round pick in 2023. Bolden was a seventh-round pick in 2023.

The moves mark the first wave of cuts as the Patriots work to trim down their roster from 90. The team has until Tuesday to get down to 53 players.
