Microsoft confirms that Windows 11 25H2 is now available for everyone to grab

Summary

  • Windows 11 25H2 (2025’s update) is now available to all eligible devices — grab it to stay up to date.
  • Biggest change: removal of some legacy features; otherwise, the update is minor and unexciting.
  • Enable “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” or check Settings > Windows Update to download now.

This year’s milestone update for Windows 11 is out now, but it’s not particularly exciting. In fact, I believe that the most significant change version 25H2 introduced was the removal of some legacy features. Still, it’s an important update to grab, if only to keep your OS up to date.

The patch was released a few weeks ago, but Microsoft doesn’t immediately distribute the update to everyone. Instead, it staggers the release in waves, allowing it to monitor for any unusual issues and fix them before rolling it out to everyone. It appears that Microsoft has given the green light for Windows 11 25H2, as the company has confirmed that everyone should now have access to it.

As spotted by Windows Latest, Microsoft has updated its Windows 11 version 25H2 documentation. It acts as a hub for everything you need to know for Windows 11 25H2, such as known and fixed issues with the update.

Since Windows 11’s 25H2 release, Microsoft has updated the page with a new status:

Current status as of October 16, 2025

Starting today, Windows 11, version 25H2, also known as the Windows 11 2025 Update, is available to all eligible Windows 11 devices for users who have turned on the setting Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available. If you have an eligible Windows 10 or Windows 11 device, you can check if the update is available by selecting Settings > Windows Update and selecting Check for updates. If your device is ready for the update, you’ll see the option to Download and install Windows 11, version 25H2. For more details, watch this video.

Note that devices running Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 that are not managed by IT departments will receive the update to Windows 11, version 25H2 automatically. You can choose the time to restart your device or postpone the update.

It’s worth noting that Microsoft states that only people with the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option enabled will receive the update immediately. Fortunately, it’s easy to enable, and Microsoft provides a guide on how to turn it on. So, if it’s not enabled yet, turn it on, and you should get the prompt to download and install the Windows 11 25H2 update ASAP. However, please don’t get too excited to get it.
