Meltdowns on Social Media As Sony Markets Its Upcoming Xbox Port 1

If you’ve happened to visit the cesspit that is X (or Twitter) this weekend, then you’ll have seen the meltdowns over Sony’s decision to market one of its upcoming games.

The official PlayStation.com page for Helldivers 2 has now been updated to reference the release on Microsoft’s machine, which will be available from 26th August.

This is nothing particularly out of the ordinary, of course – Sony’s always advertised all versions of its MLB The Show games since it went multiformat, and it included a similar acknowledgement for the Nintendo Switch version of LEGO Horizon Adventures.

We suppose the biggest change here, of course, is that an Xbox version of Helldivers 2 exists at all.

While the live service nature of the title does make it a bit different to other major Sony releases, the existence of a multiformat focused job listing has made some fans question whether PlayStation is giving up on exclusivity entirely.

“Pack it up, console warriors,” ex-IGN editor Destin Legarie wrote. “It’s time to retire.”

His replies are, as you’d expect, filled with fans who believe Marvel’s Spider-Man and Days Gone Remastered are making the move to Xbox, as has been a common point of discussion lately. (With very little evidence to support it, we’d hasten to add.)

Sony, for the record, has yet to comment on its strategy.

Most recently PS Studios boss Hermen Hulst said the company needs to be “really thoughtful” about bringing its brands off-console, but it feels like this is a fast developing situation, and we’re not really sure what its objectives are anymore.
