MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — On Saturday, detectives were investigating the murder of Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Deputy Devin Jaramillo on Friday in the Kendall District.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz announced Jaramillo, 27, was “brutally attacked” after responding to a traffic crash in the 12200 block of Southwest 128 Street, in the Three Lakes neighborhood.
Good Samaritans called 911 after Jaramillo, a former Coral Gables police officer who joined MDSO last year, was shot, Cordero-Stutz said.
“I ask our community to pray for the family of our fallen deputy, to pray for all of us, because we are family and we are hurting,” Cordero-Stutz said.
After the shooting, the gunman died by suicide, and a second suspect ran away, but deputies arrested him about an hour later, sources told Local 10 News Reporter Glenna Milberg.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel took Jaramillo to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he died, according to deputies.
Deputies and police officers arrived at the hospital. Some hugged. There were tears.
A group of motormen escorted a M-DFR ambulance transporting Jaramillo’s body in a flag-draped casket to the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office.
A sea of red and blue lights filled the street as hundreds of members of the law enforcement community gathered outside to pay their respects.
