Key Takeaways
- McDonald’s plans to lower menu prices on eight signature meals.
- The new prices will be available nationwide as part of its Extra Value Meals platform.
Fast food is convenient, delicious, and budget-friendly—or at least it used to be. It’s no secret that drive-thru chains have been steadily increasing prices in recent years. That uptick in cost means some burgers and nuggets now rival the price of a sit-down restaurant meal.
While heated meal deal competitions have been a great temporary fix at the drive-thru, prices are still rising. And that makes at-home copycat fast food recipes a lot more appealing. Plus, many brands are popping up in grocery stores, too, from Arby’s fries at Dollar Tree to Wendy’s burgers at Kroger.
Last year, in an open letter to fans, McDonald’s acknowledged rising fast food costs, sharing that prices have increased at the chain by 40 percent since 2019. But now, McDonald’s is once again emphasizing affordability with a brand-new plan: lower menu prices on its most beloved meals.
McDonald’s To Lower Prices With Extra Value Meals
McDonald’s plans to release Extra Value Meals for eight of its most popular combos.
The new prices will be 15 percent less than what McDonald’s considers the total value of a meal’s individual items. For example, a meal that currently costs $10 (say, a burger, fries, and a drink) will now cost $8.50 as a combo deal.
The fan-favorite combos getting a price adjustment include the Big Mac, Chicken McNuggets, any McCrispy sandwich, and any Quarter Pounder burger. For breakfast pricing, the Egg McMuffin, Sausage McMuffin with Egg, and Sausage Egg & Cheese McGriddles will have lower prices.
These price cuts will begin on Sept. 8, and will also feature two special Extra Value Meals—one for breakfast and one for lunch. The $5 Sausage McMuffin with Egg meal, which includes a hash brown and small coffee, is available in the morning, followed by the $8 Big Mac Meal, with medium fries and a medium drink, in the afternoon and evening.
After last year’s $18 Big Mac meal controversy, the slashed prices on combos reaffirm McDonald’s affordability in the fast food industry—especially since the chain has been known for its Dollar Menu, which is now the McValue Menu.
But that’s not all when it comes to new savings at McDonald’s. In November, fans can expect to see both $5 Sausage, Egg, and Cheese McGriddles and $8 10-Piece Chicken McNuggets meals make an appearance on menus at the Golden Arches. Plus, the $2.99 Snack Wrap is here to stay through the end of the year.
As someone who loves a good Big Mac when I’m too lazy to cook dinner, or a Sausage and Egg McMuffin to start a busy morning, Sept. 8 can’t come fast enough. For now, though, I’ll be sticking with my Snack Wrap, and, of course, a McDonald’s Sprite on the side.
