The fighting wasn’t contained to just the pitch in this past weekend’s Leagues Cup final match between Inter Miami and the Seattle Sounders.
Shocking video showed members of the two fan bases brawling outside Lumen Field in Seattle, with objects flying through the air and haymakers being flung about in the ugly scene, believed to have occurred after the Sounders defeated Inter Miami 3-0.
The sects of fans could be seen standing across from each other outside the stadium before a Sounders fan appeared to launch a trash can at a Miami fan in a black hoodie, who managed to block the waste receptacle from striking him.
A traffic cone then went flying at a Sounders fan, striking the man in the face and knocking his cap off, before the two sides engaged with one another and one Inter Miami fan seemed to swing a long cylinder object during the melee.
The 21-second clip then pans around to show the chaos that was breaking out with no security in sight before it cuts out.
The ugly scene outside mimicked some of the chaos that took place at the end of the match inside the stadium.
A shoving match broke out after the final whistle and Inter Miami’s Luis Suárez could be seen grabbing Sounders midfielder Obed Vargas by the neck, which turned into more fireworks. It also appeared at one point that Sergio Busquets punched Vargas in the face.
Suárez also seemed to spit in the face of Sounders security director Gene Ramirez.
The latest revelations seem to mar the match further, despite efforts by Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer to try and keep the focus on the events during the match when he spoke with reporters after the match.
