RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Multiple people were injured in a shooting at the Grand Sierra Resort on Monday morning. People are asked to avoid the area.
The Reno Police Department (RPD) responded to the report of an active shooter at the Grand Sierra Resort at 7:25 a.m. on July 28.
Police found the suspect within 4 to 5 minutes and an officer-involved shooting occurred outside the valet. Authorities say the suspect was transported to the hospital and there is no threat to the public. The extent of the suspect’s injuries are unknown at this time and his name has not been released.
Authorities say there are multiple victims with varying levels of injuries they’re working to make sure everyone is accounted for before an exact number is released.
Several officers were involved and some received minor injuries but they were not shot.
The shooting happened primarily outside the front door and in the valet area along with the north side of the parking lot. Authorities say the area will be closed for a while.
The Sparks Police Department will investigate the officer involved shooting.
Reno city councilman Devon Reese took to social media expressing condolences for the multiple lives lost in the shooting. News 4-Fox 11 is awaiting confirmation from RPD regarding fatalities.
On social media, Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo said the Nevada Department of Public Safety is assisting local authorities with the investigation.
